Hello there!

My name is Tanya and I love all things home and garden.

I’ve written about home decor on the internet since 2008, when I started my original blog.

I started Free Range Cottage to inspire you to be creative in your home.

Take risks and make it yours!

My husband Rob and I have a lot of experience doing just that.

We’ve owned and updated four vintage houses in our 31+ years of marriage. (As well as a couple of rentals. You’re welcome landlords).

I can confidently tell you that none of them were “move in ready” !

Over many years, I learned how to put a room together in a cohesive way.

I’ve also used my house as my decor lab and made mistakes, so you won’t have to!

Interior Design isn’t my formal training.

However, my mother was a professional Interior Designer.

Instead, I went a different direction and got my degree to become a Registered Nurse.

After raising and homeschooling three kids, several jobs, and a couple of businesses,

I decided to devote full-time to my creative side!

Right here you’ll find ideas for interior styling, DIY, and some real life thrown in!

I also started a YouTube channel to share some tutorials and thrifty finds.

It’s been a lot of fun and I’ve heard from new friends all over the world. As of this time, I have 87 videos on the channel!

Where this all began

Rob and I have three grown children and two adorable grandchildren. As I said before, I homeschooled for seventeen years.

During that time I worked as a Nurse, and had a couple of different businesses as well.

I maintained this arrangement for years and eventually “hit the wall”! But that’s a story for another time.

When my kids were young I had a Gourmet food and Flower Shop (with some home decor and antiques included). It was so much fun and I learned so much!

I ended up selling that business before we moved across the country.

Over 30+ years I’ve made decisions about what to remodel, and what to live with.

What furniture to invest in, and what to buy at the thrift store.

Now I’m sharing my tips with you, right here!

I’m so very happy that you’re here.

I hope you enjoy and find valuable content here at Free Range Cottage.
